General Information

The center of London is very easy to explore on foot. It is best to make a plan beforehand, which sights are close together, this can save some time. If you don't want to walk, you can of course also use the metro. One of the great things about London is that it has so many free attractions. E.g. the National Gallery and the National History Museum for free. If you do want to use the public transport system more often, buy the Visitor Oyster Card London. You can buy these smart cards with a credit of £ 15, £ 20 or £ 30 and recharge them as you like and use all public transport. On buses, you have to scan your credit card or Oyster card at the driver's front door.

Buckingham Palace, London, UK

Buckingham Palace is the London residence of Queen Elizabeth II. Here you should definitely see one of Buckingham Palace's oldest ceremonies: the changing of the guard. The soldiers on duty at Buckingham Palace and St. James Palace - called "The Old Guard" - are replaced by "The New Guard" when the guard changes. The changing of the guard begins at 11 a.m. in front of Buckingham Palace and ends after around 30 minutes. In summer the ceremony takes place every day, in winter only every two days.

Probably the most famous and fourth largest Ferris wheel in the world. A fast track adult ticket for the London Eye, which can be pre-purchased online, costs £ 35.00. A normal ticket costs £ 25.00. From here you have a great view of London.

Tower Bridge, London, UK

Another London landmark. Tower Bridge is arguably the most famous bascule bridge in the world. The upper connections are accessible pedestrian bridges. You can even go up the towers and have a wonderful view over London and the Thames from a height of 43 meters. A glass floor was also installed on one of the two bridges. Our tip: Take the RV1 sightseeing bus, which will take you over Tower Bridge to various sights such as the South Bank: London Eye Ferris Wheel, Tate Gallery and Borough Market.

Tower of London, London, UK

One of the most visited attractions in London is the Tower of London. The old walls have a great charm, a tour of the wall offers a great view and you will find highlights such as the crown jewels or ravens there. However, because the tower is so popular, there are often long queues. It is best to buy the ticket beforehand on the tower's website.

Westminster Abbey, London, UK

Westminster Abbey is the church of the British monarchs, here the kings and queens are crowned and buried after their death. The royal weddings also take place here. Your entrance fee is typically £ 18 (around € 24). If you go to the evening prayer (eveningsong) at 5 p.m. you not only get free entry but you can also listen to the choir for a while. I would recommend you to be there 15-30 minutes before 5pm as there is a line sometimes.

Big Ben is probably the most famous landmark in London. The hourly ringing of bells is an integral part of everyday life for Londoners. However, Big Ben will be restored until 2021 and there is currently no carillon. The Palace of Westminster (also called Westminster Palace) is the seat of the British Parliament in London.
