DESCRIPTION

London is a big city that should be seen at least once in a lifetime. We were there for the first time and the three days were pretty tight, because we wanted to see as much as possible. If you have more time, you can extend your Trip for another 1-2 days. For most tours and attractions in London you can get the tickets cheaper if you buy them online beforehand via the official website. Or you can get the London City Pass.

HIGHLIGHTS

ITINERARY

  • General Information

The center of London is very easy to explore on foot. It is best to make a plan beforehand, which sights are close together, this can save some time. If you don't want to walk, you can of course also use the metro. One of the great things about London is that it has so many free attractions. E.g. the National Gallery and the National History Museum for free. If you do want to use the public transport system more often, buy the Visitor Oyster Card London. You can buy these smart cards with a credit of £ 15, £ 20 or £ 30 and recharge them as you like and use all public transport. On buses, you have to scan your credit card or Oyster card at the driver's front door.

    Accommodation

Chelsea House Hotel, Redcliffe Gardens, London, UK

Inexpensive hotel with a good location.

    Activities and Sights

      Buckingham Palace, London, UK
      Buckingham Palace, London, UK

Buckingham Palace is the London residence of Queen Elizabeth II. Here you should definitely see one of Buckingham Palace's oldest ceremonies: the changing of the guard. The soldiers on duty at Buckingham Palace and St. James Palace - called "The Old Guard" - are replaced by "The New Guard" when the guard changes. The changing of the guard begins at 11 a.m. in front of Buckingham Palace and ends after around 30 minutes. In summer the ceremony takes place every day, in winter only every two days.

      Hyde Park, London, UK
      Hyde Park, London, UK

Hyde Park is the Central Park of London. Perfect for a break from sightseeing. With its 140 hectares, 4000 trees, a large lake, beautifully landscaped gardens, statues and leisure activities, it has a lot to offer. Kensington Gardens is also located on Hyde Park. A large front yard from Kensington Palace

      London Eye, London, UK
      London Eye, London, UK

Probably the most famous and fourth largest Ferris wheel in the world. A fast track adult ticket for the London Eye, which can be pre-purchased online, costs £ 35.00. A normal ticket costs £ 25.00. From here you have a great view of London.

      Tower Bridge, London, UK
      Tower Bridge, London, UK

Another London landmark. Tower Bridge is arguably the most famous bascule bridge in the world. The upper connections are accessible pedestrian bridges. You can even go up the towers and have a wonderful view over London and the Thames from a height of 43 meters. A glass floor was also installed on one of the two bridges. Our tip: Take the RV1 sightseeing bus, which will take you over Tower Bridge to various sights such as the South Bank: London Eye Ferris Wheel, Tate Gallery and Borough Market.

      Tower of London, London, UK
      Tower of London, London, UK

One of the most visited attractions in London is the Tower of London. The old walls have a great charm, a tour of the wall offers a great view and you will find highlights such as the crown jewels or ravens there. However, because the tower is so popular, there are often long queues. It is best to buy the ticket beforehand on the tower's website.

      Westminster Abbey, London, UK
      Westminster Abbey, London, UK

Westminster Abbey is the church of the British monarchs, here the kings and queens are crowned and buried after their death. The royal weddings also take place here. Your entrance fee is typically £ 18 (around € 24). If you go to the evening prayer (eveningsong) at 5 p.m. you not only get free entry but you can also listen to the choir for a while. I would recommend you to be there 15-30 minutes before 5pm as there is a line sometimes.

      Oxford Street, London, UK
      Oxford Street, London, UK

Oxford Street is 2 km away and this is where all the major fashion chains in Great Britain are located. Our tip: Go to the shops that are less familiar to you, it's worth it :)

      Piccadilly Circus, London, UK
      Piccadilly Circus, London, UK

Piccadilly Circus is one of the most popular tourist destinations in London and one of the most famous road junctions in the world. The best thing to do is sit down at the famous Eros statue (the angel on the fountain) and watch the people or take a few photos in front of the iconic advertising screens.

      St. James Park, London, UK
      St. James Park, London, UK

St. James's Park is the oldest royal park in London. In the middle of the park is a lake with two islands, Duck Island and West Island. The bridge over the lake has a good view of Buckingham Palace.

Big Ben, Palace of Westminster, London, UK
Big Ben, Palace of Westminster, London, UK

Big Ben is probably the most famous landmark in London. The hourly ringing of bells is an integral part of everyday life for Londoners. However, Big Ben will be restored until 2021 and there is currently no carillon. The Palace of Westminster (also called Westminster Palace) is the seat of the British Parliament in London.

SUMMARY

Unfortunately, we couldn't see everything during our three days in London. The city has so much to offer that you can easily spend a week there to experience it in all its glory. But that shouldn't stop you from traveling to London for a short city break anyway. The city is really great! It's best to come here in summer, of course. Otherwise you shouldn't forget your umbrella;)
